Minor Ailments & Head Lice Service
Pharmacies commissioned to provide a minor ailments service give advice and support to people on the management of minor ailments, including where necessary, the supply of medicines, (free of charge to those exempt from prescription charges), to manage the minor ailment if, in the professional opinion of the pharmacist, there is a current clinical need for the medication, and the medicine required is not contraindicated.
It is important to remember that minor ailments services do not replace OTC purchase of medication. Those customers who usually manage their own minor ailments through self-care and purchase of OTC medication should continue to self-manage and treat their minor ailments as per essential service 6, self-care.
