National No Smoking Day! Wednesday 13th March 2024

THIS CONTENT HAS NOW EXPIRED

National No Smoking Day is an annual day of awareness that always takes place on the second Wednesday of March. This year, the Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) will launch a hard-hitting campaign to emphasise the health harms of smoking and encourage the 5.3 million smokers in England to make a quit attempt.

The campaign will highlight that two in three smokers die of a smoking related disease alongside the harms of generational smoking, which sees young adults taking up the habit if parents, caregivers, or friends do.

Are you doing anything to promote No Smoking Day in your pharmacy? Now is the time to start planning! How can you support smokers wanting to quit? To help you, campaign materials are available from the DHSC website here.

Have you signed up to the Smoking Cessation Advanced Service? Now would be a great time to make this a focus in anticipation of National No Smoking Day as we now have 5 Trusts in West Yorkshire LIVE with this service. See out Trust Status here. Information about the Smoking Cessation Advanced Service and how to sign up is available here.

To further help you help your patients, there are also locally commissioned Smoking Cessation Services in each area, further information can be found on our website here.

We know that face-to-face interaction with smokers is highly effective in generating quit attempts and explaining the range of support on offer, but for those patients unable or not wanting face-to-face support, you can direct patients to a range of information and free support tools on the Better Health – Quit Smoking website.

An Illegal Vape Poster can also be found below which may be helpful to display in your pharmacy.
