Research, Service Evaluation and Audit

We are dedicated to improving the quantity and quality of research and evaluation which appraises the delivery of community pharmacy services.  Pharmacies are already involved to differing extents in a range of research-related activity.  This varies from contractual and pre-registration audit through to service evaluation and participation in structured research studies.

Research and Evaluation Strategy

Over the next two years we plan to implement our Research and Evaluation Strategy which dovetails with the overall Community Pharmacy West Yorkshire Strategy.  Their joint vision to demonstrate pharmacy’s ability to improve the health and wellbeing of their communities through delivering urgent care, improving medicines optimisation and delivering public health services.   The research and evaluation strategy has 4 main themes:

Building Capacity for Research

Building Evidence

Building Reputation

Building Networks

Service Evaluation

There is currently limited evidence which recognises the role of community pharmacies in delivering urgent care, medicines optimisation and public health services, thus a lack of evidence which supports the commissioning of services through community pharmacy.  The evaluation of pharmacy services is important to demonstrate the effectiveness of community pharmacy and to recognise community pharmacy’s positive impact on primary care services and overall improvement in the health and well-being of patients.  The results are used to make recommendations about services and help to support future commissioning of services.

Research Ready

Are you already research ready or would you like to become a research ready pharmacy within West Yorkshire?

We would love to hear from you.  Please contact rachel@cpwy.org or telephone 07834 757 701.

Research Ready is an online self-accreditation tool hosted by the RPS which covers the basic requirements for undertaking primary care research in the UK.  Research Ready accreditation enables pharmacy teams to demonstrate their preparedness to conduct high quality research.  The accreditation provides an assurance to researchers that the pharmacy is up-to-date and compliant with national standards for research.  The process of accreditation allows teams to reflect on their practice and therefore minimises potential risks for your pharmacy, your team and study participants.
