Guide to NHS Standard Policies and Procedures

NHS England has produced a number of standard policies and procedures which should be followed by their Area Teams. This encourages that the correct processes are followed and reduces local variation, as well as reducing the administration for both the Area Teams and LPCs in producing what would be duplicate documents.

For these reasons, PSNC recommends that LPCs ensure that where Area Teams discuss policies and procedures with them, they use the standard ones, where these exist rather than a locally produced document. If Area Teams deviate from them then they should be challenged, and referred to the relevant policy on the NHS England website. PSNC would also like to be notified of this, so that we can monitor this and raise it with the central team at NHS England. We would also like to be notified where LPCs are aware of a gap in policies that Area Teams are seeking to draft, so that where appropriate we can then work with NHS England to produce a nationally agreed policy.
